MASShelter

MASShelter Data Center provides access to the most comprehensive aggregate, unduplicated data available on homeless individuals using Massachusetts emergency shelters. MASShelter Data Center is a brand new tool that allows you to dynamically design your own reports and cross-cut the data in many more ways than are possible in a written report. Three easy screens guide the process. You can view your results as a table, chart, text document or spreadsheet. MASShelter Data Center enables you to view all statewide data or choose filters based on Gender, Age Group, Race, Region, and Veterans Status. Your reports can contain information on Gender, Age, Race, Marital Status, Education Level, Prior Living Situation, Region, and Income Category. Data are from 2000, 2001, and 2002. Data from 2003 are coming soon! MASShelter Data Center was created by the CSPTech project of the Center for Social Policy at the University of Massachusetts Boston. It uses information collected through the statewide Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). Analysis of this information is critical to understanding and overcoming the many dimensions of homelessness in Massachusetts. Visit MASShelter Data Center at http://www.csp.umb.edu/Masshelter/.

CSPTech Data Release
http://www.csp.umb.edu/

Within the next few months, CSPTech will be releasing a report on families and individuals who accessed emergency shelter during 2003. We have over 18,000 individual records and 1,500 family records representing approximately 63% of individuals and families who accessed emergency shelter in the state. These reports will contain demographic information as well as information on prior residence, health insurance, special needs and income. The overall goal of the CSPTech Project is to produce reports such as these in order to impact public policy.

We want to take this opportunity to thank all homeless consumers and all staff members at participating shelters who have conducted interviews and entered data. Thanks to you, we have many more records than we have had in the past and the data quality for 2003 is excellent. All of you are to be congratulated. We want to extend a special thank you to the staff at Long Island Shelter and Pine Street Inn who contributed over 60% of the records on the individual side.

Please let us know if you are interested in receiving a report by emailing Nancy Sullivan at nancyk.sullivan@umb.edu. Please note that all reports are also available on our website http://www.csp.umb.edu/.

ServicePoint 3.02

ServicePoint has been upgraded to version 3.02. We have placed required data fields on the first screen. These fields include HUD’s universal data elements plus a few extra fields that we require for data analysis and reporting. There are also a couple of other assessments that you may need to complete. These include: Required Children’s Minimal Data and HUD 40118. We ask that all programs serving families complete the Required Children’s Minimal Data. HUD funded programs will need to complete the HUD 40118 in order to complete their APR.

If you are having any trouble using this version of ServicePoint, we ask that you contact your Technical Assistant. We are in touch with Bowman Internet Systems on a daily basis regarding issues and problems that you are having. On a weekly basis, we are sending Site Administrators updates on solutions that Bowman staff are implementing.

We also want to let you know that ServicePoint will be featuring a new reporting tool within the next few months – Cognos ReportNet. The Cognos reporting tool will be much quicker than ReportWriter. We have also learned that Site Administrators will be able to program reports to run while they are away from the office. CSPTech staff members have volunteered to test this tool in order to make sure that it will meet your needs. Once we know when this new tool will be incorporated, we will let you know. We will also schedule report writing trainings for those of you who are responsible for generating reports.

New Tool for Site Administrators

Within the next few months, Site Administrators will be able to go on-line to register staff for CSPTech trainings. Administrators will also be able to check data quality for all of their programs using ServicePoint.

In order to ensure that we have your agency’s most updated information, we ask that Site Administrators send Nancy Sullivan, CSPTech Project Manager -nancyk.sullivan@umb.edu - an email with your name. Please also include the name and email address of your Executive Director. Thank you.
